On July 25 his Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia in the course of his visitation of the Diocese of Dnipropetrovsk called to the Regional Clinicl Hospital named after Mechnikov. The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church was accompanied by the city and regional executives, Metropolitan Iriney of Dnipropetovsk and Pavlohrad and other archpastors.
At the entrance His Holiness was welcomed by the representatives of the regional administration, chief regional health protection department, chief physician of the hospital V.A.Pavlov, rector of the hospital church dedicated to the Holy Unmercenary Doctors Kosma and Damian, archpriest George Zakharchenko.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill attended the therapeutic and surgery departments of the medical institution and talked to the patients in the wards, giving them his blessing.
Then His Holiness passed to the church. The Church of Sts Kosma and Damian was constructed in 1996 and became the first hospital church in Ukraine.
Having raised the prayer, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church addressed the doctors, patients and parishioners with a word of instruction. He extended special gratitude to Metropolitan Iriney for his attention to organization of the spiritual guidance of people staying at hospital for treatment and said:
“When a sick person obtains faith, his possibility to recover grows many times. The doctors know that well enough. It refers not simply to psychotherapy, but to passing of the force to men, which is able to work miracles – that is the power of faith. It is not mere chance that the miracles take place in the Church, not because we are saint, but because God stays in the Church, and works miracles in response to the strong faith of people, including the miracle of healing”.
As a remembrance of his visit to the hospital and a blessing to the church His Holiness Patriarch Kirill passed to the chief physician of the hospital and rector of the hospital church the icons of the Holy Great Martyr and healer Panteleimon.
His Holiness also blessed to distribute the icons of the Holy Hierarch Tikhon, Patriarch of All Russia among all those present.
Chief physician A.Pavlov offered as a gift to His Holiness a unique photoalbum, dedicated to the history of this hospital, founded in 1798 and one of the eldest in Ukraine.
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church signed the book of honored guests.
«May the God’s blessing rest on everyone bringing healing to people in the Regional Clinical Hospital of Dnipropetrovsk named after I.Mechnikov , which entered in history due to high professionalism, courage, love of the suffering and love of the Motherland. I wish medical personnel new success and prosperity”.
