On July 25 in the course of the archpastoral visit of the Diocese of Dnipropetrovsk His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia presided over the divine liturgy in the square in front of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral. In order that all those willing could pray at the patriarchal divine service, the Liturgy was performed on the altar, installed in the shade in the cathedral square.
Concelebrating to His Holiness were Chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchy Metropolitan Varsonofy of Saransk and Mordovia, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchy Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokalamsk, Metropolitan Iriney of Dnipropetrovsk and Pavlohrad, Metropolitan Hilarion of Donetsk and Mariupol, Archbishop Efraim of Nikopol and Kryvyy Rih, Abbot of the Holy Trinity St Sergius Lavra Archbishop Theognost of Sergiev-Posad, Bishop Metrophanes of Horlivka and Slovyansk, chief of the Administrative secretariat of the Moscow Patriarchy Sergy of Solnechnogorsk, Bishop Ioasaph of Nova Kakhovka and Henychesk, Bishop Yevlogy of Novomoskovsk, chairman of the Synodal Department for Church-Society Relation archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, deputy chairman of the DECR archpriest Nikolai Balashov, rector of the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral of Dnipropetrovsk Yaroslav deneka, rector of the Novomoskovsk Cossack’s Cathedral archpriest Vladimir Tseshkovsky, other clergymen.
Attending the divine service also were head of the regional state administration A.Vilkul, chairman of the regional council E.Udod, chairman of the city council of Dnirpopetrovsk I.Kulichenko, chairman of the regional association of the bodies of local self-government Yuri Vilkul, other executives of the city and region, chairman of the Synodal Information Department V.R.Legoyda.
Thousands of inhabitants of the city and pilgrims gathered around church, and big screens were installed in the square for them, which broadcasted the Patriarchal service.
Upon the Gospel readings His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia addressed the faithful with a sermon. Following the divine service the Primate of the ROC was welcomed by the ruling bishop of the Diocese of Dnipropetrovsk, Metropolitan Iriney of Dnipropetrovsk and Pavlohrad. Metropolitan Iriney offered His Holiness as a present an Icon of the Holy Great Martyress Catherine – the heavenly patroness of Dnipropetrovsk, which had been previously called Katerynoslav.
In conclusion of his speech of His Eminence Iriney all those present in the square exclaimed “God save You” to His Holiness the Patriarch.
