On July 25 His Holiness Patriarch Kirill laid a wreath of flowers to the monument of the Eternal Glory in Dnipropetrovsk, constructed to commemorate the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War.
Taking part in the commemoration ceremony were ruling bishop of the Diocese of Dnipropetrovsk, metropolitan Iriney of Pavlohrad and Dnipropetrovsk, members of the delegation, accompanying His Holiness in his visitation of Ukraine, in particular, Chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchy, Metropolitan Varsonofy of Mordovia and Saransk, deputy abbot of the Holy Trinity St Sergius Lavra Archbishop Theognost of Sergiev-Posad, chief of the Administrative Secretariat of the Moscow Patriarchy Bishop Sergy of Solnechnogorsk, Vicar of the Diocese of Dnipropetrovsk Yevlogy of Novomoskovsk. The orthodox hierarchs and the regional executives laid flowers to the foot of the monument.
The city residents and veterans also came to pay tribute of memory to the heroes of the Great Patriotic War. The guard of honor lined up by the memorial.
The leaders and soldiers, who gave their lives for the faith and Motherland was sung “memory eternal”.
Upon completion of the ceremony His Holiness Patriarch Kirill talked to the veterans who gathered that day at the soldiers’ memorial.
