On July 23 the archpastoral visitation of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to Odessa was completed. During his stay in our city the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church called to the Holy Dormition Cathedral of Odessa and the Holy Dormition Patriarchal Monastery, Odessa Theological Seminary and the National Law Academy of Odessa, where he talked to the pedagogical-professorial staff and the students, met with the clergy of the Diocese of Odessa and the community of the city at the National Opera and Ballet Theater of Odessa. The culminating point of all solemnities became the consecration of a pearl of the Northern Black Sea region – the restored Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, which was indeed a triumph of canonical Orthodoxy, a testimony of revival of spirituality in our region. The large church could not contain many thousands of people willing to pray together with their Primate.
In the morning on July 23 His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia left our city. At the airport the Primate was seen off by His Eminence Metropolitan Agathangel of Odessa and Izmail, His Grace Alexy of Belhorod-Dnistrovskyy, governor of the Odessa region E.Matviychuk, chairman of the Odessa regional council N.L.Skoryk, Odessa city mayor E.Hurvits, people’s deputy of Ukraine S.Kivalov, representatives of the diplomatic corps and clergymen of the Diocese of Odessa. In his farewell word His Holiness the Patriarch thanked His Eminence Metropolitan Agathangel for the warm welcome and great work on revival of spirituality in the region.
