On July 27 at the red building of the Kyiv National University named after Taras Shevchenko Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met with rectors of higher educational establishments of Ukraine.
Before the meeting in the office of the rector of the Kyiv National University His Holiness had talks with the Minister of Education and Science, Youth and Sport, D.V. Tabachnik and rector of Kyiv University, L.V. Hubersky.
His Holiness made a record in the book of honorary guests of the university.
Then, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church took place in the reception hall for official delegations, where the Minister of Education of Ukraine appealed to His Holiness welcomed and introduced all the participants.
His Holiness the Patriarch put a signature in the book of honorable guests of the university, and greeted the rector of Kyiv Shevchenko University.
In his speech, His Holiness expressed his ideas of the importance of church tradition in history, culture and science.
Among the participants were the rectors of the following establishment - the National Pedagogical University named after Dragomanov V.P. Andryuschenko, of the Kyiv Trade and Economic University, A.A. Mazaraki, of the Kyiv National Economic University A.F. Pavlenko, of the National Medical University named after A.A. Bogomolets V.F. Moskalenko, of the Kharkiv National University named after Karazin V.S. Bakirov, of the Odessa National University named after Mechnikov I.N. Koval, of theNational Law Academy of Ukraine named after Yaroslav the Wise V.J. Tatsiy, of the Odessa Law Academy S.V. Kivalov, of the National Transport University N.F. Dmitrichenko, of the Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky Pedagogical University named after Gregory Skovoroda V.P. Kotsur, as well as president of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine V. Kremen, chairman of the Ukrainian State Committee on Television and Radio A.V. Kurdinovich, First Deputy Minister of Education, Youth and Sport, E.N. Sulima, president of the Center of system analysis and forecasting R.V. Ishchenko, First Deputy Minister of Culture of Ukraine J.P. Bogutsky, other government agencies and higher educational establishments of Ukraine.
Attending the assembly also were Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the ROC Metropolitan Hilarion, rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, Archbishop Anthony of Boryspil, Archbishop Philip of Poltava and Myrhorod, chairman of the Synodal Department for Church and Society, Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, chairman of the Synodal Information Department V.R. Legoida, Vice-Chairman of the DECR Archpriest Nikolai Balashov.
After the speech of His Holiness the Patriarch shared his view on several issues.
Participants of the meeting were presented with the book "Freedom and responsibility: In the search of harmony. Human rights and dignity" in Ukrainian and the book" The Patriarch of Holy Rus", containing the words and sermons of His Holiness, said during the visit to Ukraine on 20-28 July 2010.
