On July 28 in the Church of the holy Protection Veil in Zaporizhia a blast struck in the course of the evening service. As a result, 9 people were injured, nun Lyudmila (Donets) died of the wounds inflicted. His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia extended his condolences over the tragedy.
“I’m profoundly shocked by the blast that struck in the Church of the holy Protection Veil in Zaporizhia”, — the patriarch’s message to His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr and Bishop Joseph of Zaporizhia and Melitopol. “It is even awful to imagine what is on in the minds and souls of those who committed this crime”. We do not know today who these people were and what they were guided with. But one thing is clear enough: they forgot God and became slaves of hatred. The outcome is clear: from now on they are the murderers and criminals, who had gained nothing, having multiplied evil, and could not have gained anything.”
“Anyone shooting at heavens, finally shoots oneself”, emphasized the Primate of the Russian Church. “I hope the earthy justice will run over the terrorists. I’m sure they have already suffered punishment - they have cast their souls into the hell of hatred and devil’s malice. And there is nothing worse for man than to distort one’s personality, having turned from the image of God to the vessel of evil”.
“I call everyone not to be afraid and at the same time to restrain one’s anger, not allowing it to turn into a blind hatred”, His Holiness the Patriarch stated. “Let’s not forget that however awful this age was, the Love will finally win, the Love which is not afraid of lie and violence.”
“I pray for the repose of the soul of the God’s servant nun Lyudmila, for the health of those who suffered in this tragedy. I’m asking to convey them my sympathy and love of them. May God send us His mercy, keeping our lives in peace and purety”, concluded His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
